When I was a teenager, I absolutely hated Donna Summer's "Love to Love You Baby." Now, in my 50s, I find the full 17-minute version of the song to be simply divine. In retrospect, I see why it was so popular in the discos. It's a masterpiece of performance and production.

Some singers from the disco era were great. Donna Summers of course, Gloria Gaynor and Anita Stewart to name 2 more.

Check out FOX’s “S-s-s-single Bed.” Apparently, the lead singer is Ben Goldacre’s mom!

What music did you like at the time? I've read there was a punk vs. disco subculture rivalry.
-
It was more rock vs. disco, not so much punk. Today we'd call it classic rock.

Me too - I was too much of a music snob in retrospect - into prog rock and hard rock, but now I like dancing I've realised the absolute genius of Nile Rogers, the Bee Gees & Kool & the Gang.

Same here. Except "Turn the Beat Around" - I've always loved it. I cannot deny it - I love to hear percussion.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZfPWp-VGKY …

You can't get more disco than a guy in a vest playing disco flute.
