Ugh. Invoking plausibility can be abused, but plausibility is NOT just a "product of personal opinion." I'll give an example: Homeopathy. Is it just a "product of personal opinion" to say that homeopath violates several laws of physics and chemistry, making it impossible? No!https://twitter.com/mloxton/status/1149668312734769153 …

Plausibility as the product of personal opinion doesn't work as the replacement of a published paper in a peer-reviewed journal. Your personal opinion that the upper limit of a range offered by a paper, remains just your personal opinion. Your opinion isn't data

This is such a good point. I’ve used the word “common sense” at times when I realize I should have said “plausibility”—w reference to basic laws of physics etc to explain why and when and how just thinking something through can be useful.

Plausibility is just the first test. Does it make sense using scarce resources researching homeopathy? Hell no! Nobody can even come up with an explanation of how it could work. Autism and vaccines? Well it’s plausibly. Then we actually look for a link. Over and over and over....
