The reason it seems many of us hammer the Far-Left more than the Far-Right is that we EXPECT White Supremacists et al. to act like violent thugs. Liberalism is suppose to be cerebral, making the case with good arguments, not angry fists. Conclusion: the Far-Left ≠ Liberalism.

Sure violence is bad but violence is a tactic and not an idea. Why even connect the two? There is nothing left about it even if a leftist individual uses it. It just makes no sense.

Of course it makes sense if your goal is propaganda, not reasoned discourse. That's why right wing propagandists do it. It's effective propaganda too. After all, Shermer fell for it.

Group blame ideology (leftist punches=leftists are bad, instead of =punches are bad) has become the go to method of deflecting responsibility for defending or attacking ideas. Surprising that Shermer has embraced it so heartily.

It does sadden me that Shermer so enthusiastically embraced propaganda messages of fascists that left wing violence is more of a threat than right wing violence and that Nazis were left wing socialists. True, he disavowed the latter message, but he's still flogging the former.
