Considering that the far right perpetrates way more violence than the far left (it isn't even close), Shermer's asymmetry in criticizing left wing violence perpetuates a narrative of false equivalence that portrays left wing violence as far more of a problem than it really is.https://twitter.com/michaelshermer/status/1147154472201670657 …

The same is true of the "Nazis were socialists" meme that Shermer fell for and was forced to admit wasn't accurate. It's revisionist history used as propaganda The idea is to falsely and deceptively portray fascist violence as left wing. It saddened me to see Shermer fall for it.

I know everyone has blind spots, myself included. Skeptics should try very hard to identify theirs and eliminate the ones they can, realizing it's impossible to eliminate them all. I try, and I'm sure I must fail sometimes.

What saddens me is to see Shermer's blind spot caused by his distaste for certain elements of the left get bigger and his apparent desire to address that blind spot get smaller. When it comes to elements of the left he dislikes, it's motivated reasoning all the way.

Violence is used by the Left. Right supports individual Liberty and our Constitutional Republic based on the Rule of Law, which limits Government, not citizens
