I think there can be a perfect storm of factors. Many senior folks are ignorant of social media realities, extent, sophistication & consequences of the anti/alternative health vehemence. Legal systems & advice (esp defamation law) can stack against scientists

Yep. In the US they've definitely weaponized FOIA requests. Don't say anything in email you wouldn't want to become public.

This is just good general advice anyway, because you can be sued too and then there's discovery. It's just not as easy as FOIA requests.
