THREAD: Last week @realDonaldTrump tweeted about this @foxandfriends interview with @NatalieJHarp. Ms. Harp is being held up as an example of how #RightToTry is working and saving lives. 1/ https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1139485397858291713 …

Ms. Harp stated that she has a rare bone cancer and was mistakenly given sterile water via IV while being care for in hospital. She says she was given palliative options and instructions to end her life but not offered curative care. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/millennial-cancer-joe-biden-trump-right-try-saved-life … 2/

This story has received attention beyond the presidential tweet and
@foxandfriends interview, including claims that "Trump signing Right to Try last year helped her experiment with treatment". https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7148155/Cancer-fighter-slams-Biden-saying-hell-cure-disease-elected-says-Trump-kept-alive.html … 3/1 reply 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -
But is this true?
@NatalieJHarp states in her original story about her experience that after initially failing two chemotherapies for her cancer, her oncologist gave her "an FDA-approved immunotherapy drug for an unapproved use" that worked for her. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/im-living-proof-party-healthcare-trumps-natalie-harp-mba?articleId=6544639370236960769#comments-6544639370236960769&trk=public_profile_post … 4/1 reply 3 retweets 2 likesShow this thread -
But that's not what
#RightToTry does. It circumvents the FDA to allow access to non-FDA approved investigational drugs that have cleared phase I trials and remain under investigation. It isn't for gaining access to off-label use. https://www.fda.gov/patients/learn-about-expanded-access-and-other-treatment-options/right-try … 5/1 reply 3 retweets 10 likesShow this thread -
Given that this story is being used to promote
#RightToTry as a success, it is really important whether it was needed and used to give Ms. Harp access to treatment. But I haven't seen any news coverage questioning or confirming her version of events. Am I missing something? 6/3 replies 4 retweets 7 likesShow this thread -
I'd be grateful for others' perspectives.

It's off-label use, not #RightToTry.
