I was a general surgeon before I specialized, and let me just point out that general surgeons ARE cancer surgeons. Some of the best GI cancer surgeons I've ever known, whom I trained under, were general surgeons who never did a fellowship. The best thyroid surgeon I ever knew...ditto. 6/

I didn't mean to go off like this, but reading a contemptuous reference to "just general surgeons" in that context DEFINITELY rubbed me the wrong way—big time. 7/7
