No, @NRATV and @DLoesch, if you believe that figure, you have to believe that well over half of ALL hospital deaths in the US are due to malpractice. The researchers who tout that number are innumerate, and so are you. 2/ https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/are-medical-errors-really-the-third-most-common-cause-of-death-in-the-u-s/ …

In reality, deaths due to medical error are probably at least 10- to 20-fold fewer than the inflated estimates of 250K-400K/year, which are derived using overly sensitive case ascertainment and dubious extrapolations. 3/ https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/are-medical-errors-really-the-third-most-common-cause-of-death-in-the-u-s-2019-edition/ …

As for gun violence, though, you're off by a factor of around 50. (1/500 of 400K is 800.) In actuality, nearly 40K die from firearms per year in the US. 4/ https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/us/gun-deaths.html …

And besides, this is an egregious non sequitur. One set of fatalities does not have to say a damn thing about the other for both to be a problem. But only one of them has an established set of regulations and procedures to mitigate harm and it ain't in gun policy.
