I think of this as them conflating germs/bacteria with deadly viruses. Should we bath an infant everyday with deep cleanser? Nope. Should we never let kids get dirty? Nope. But that’s NOT this.

It also reminds me a lot of discussions around seat belts... “we rode in the back of the station wagon and never died”. But others DID. And part of wearing one is to control the vehicle so your car and/or body won’t harm another.

Yup. And seatbelts occasionally do cause injury and death in a crash. It's just that a driver and passenger's odds of surviving a crash are FAR higher wearing a seat belt and shoulder harness than they are if a seatbelt isn't worn.
