Quacks: “Big Pharma suppresses all the ‘natural’ cancer treatments out there...!!” Reality: Actinomycin, used to treat sarcomas, was isolated from a bacterium found in nature, streptomyces parvulus. You can see him happily growing in a dish below. But wait. There’s more... https://twitter.com/gemmaod1/status/1137284688589074432 …pic.twitter.com/m2s9qlgB20

Daunorubicin is no stranger to the world of cancer busting baddies... ...& was literally dug out of the ground! You see, it’s from another bacterium, streptomyces peucetius, which was found in the soil around Castel del Monte, a 13th-century castle in France 🇫🇷. Ah...France!pic.twitter.com/YDiY6meE8r

Let’s not stop there though... Nature is all about trees, & boy have the trees ever been cancer’s worst enemy... ...we have paclitaxel - used to treat breast, ovarian, lung, & other cancers, & is derived from the Pacific yew...pic.twitter.com/brObfXwcgn

Also, vincristine - is a vinca alkaloid made from the periwinkle plant (catharanthus rosea) & takes on leukemias, lymphomas, myelomas, & more... Just look at this natural badass:pic.twitter.com/u4fGZwWeDn

We all know “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”, & plants were all on board with that... ... Etoposide is derived from the Mayapple plant, which makes a fruit that can look a bit like a lemon, but is mostly a ‘lemon’ to the various cancers it treats...pic.twitter.com/Dw0Qkgzzwy

And y’know, what we really want with cancer treatment (& all treatments) is to sooth, & hopefully bring some joy back to those who are suffering... ...so happily, our anti-ovarian cancer friend topotecan is a derived from... ...the Asian "Happy Tree" 🤗pic.twitter.com/TeHjCr7PPk

& hey, even the cancer drugs made in a lab are closely tied to nature... ...the anti-GI & breast cancer agent 5-Fluorouracil was synthesized, but has natural analogues found in the marine sponge, Phakellia fusca collected around the Yongxing Island in the South China Sea! 😲pic.twitter.com/zU7nIqpX3z

So, no...scientists around the world, in universities, & even at big ‘bad’ pharmaceutical companies are not hiding effective treatments. They’re researching all chemicals, even natural ones! & at least they’re focused on what works...instead of deceiving you with magic beans!
