I'm on the founding team of @AHSM_org and we all knew to chat with veterans and experts in the arena prior to forming the organization. And we're actively seeking to collaborate with all healthcare professionals - those new to social media and those who've been at it for years.

Well if you’re seeking to combat vaccine and health disinfo, you haven’t been talking to the right people. Who are your scicomm experts? This is a field of academic study after all.

I was wondering the very same thing, but refrained from coming right out and asking for the simple reason that I was more interested in whether this org is truly serious about combatting online medical misinformation and knew what it was getting into.

We're more than serious. It isn't about "being influencers", it's about building a platform for those who already are experts in the area and increasing the outreach. And not just fighting misinformation...we can help with advocacy, lobbying, etc

OK, here's where I out-blunt Mark a little. How? "Building a platform" is so vague as to be nearly meaningless. I already have multiple platforms. What about yours will be so much better and effective?

It's just a different approach. Can you share some of your platforms and/or any relevant Instagram/social handles? I suspect instead of competition, there's a great way to collaborate.

Shouldn’t AHSM have done an environmental assessment? Already had a robust knowledge of who has been doing the work for years, for free?

Wow, I hate to sound sycophantic to one or harsh to the other but if he doesn't know Gorski I doubt think that he did any relevant research at all.

It’s not at all sycophantic. Gorski, Novella, Gunter, Hickey, Offit, Swanson, and a number of other physicians have been opposing vaccine denial for years. As have people, like

Those docs from SBM and Dr Offit are a big part of why I went into pediatrics (and neurology). I've been reading RI and SBM since 2008 or so. Helped me learn EBM in med school and residency, and gave me the tools I needed to help persuade vaccine hesitant parents in clinic.
