Here's another one to add to the list @CaulfieldTim (and I'm not biased just because he's another #GI doc 😉)! #GoScience @AustinChiangMD This doctor is recruiting an army of medical experts to drown out fake health news on Instagram and Twitter https://cnb.cx/2KmDK2m

Unfortunately, this strategy doesn't work. We already know that. Misinformation is an unending stream, a deluge that overwhelms everyone, and there aren't enough doctors who are good on social media to counter the cranks, quacks, trolls, and bots spreading medical misinformation.

“There aren’t enough doctors who are good on social media” That’s precisely what we are trying to assist...and not just with resources and pep talks but advocacy and partnerships with institutions to incentivize social media contributions.

Yes, but you're using the knowledge deficit model of combatting misinformation. That's the wrong model. If every doctor in existence joined the fight, you could still never "drown out" all the medical misinformation with good medical information. Other strategies are needed.

Of course many strategies are needed, getting more experts on #socialmedia is one. Training folks to be effective at #scicomm is another, @webmz_ has a wonderful piece on this: https://undark.org/2019/01/24/to-groom-better-scientists-harness-the-power-of-narrative/ …

Maybe, but didn’t the power of narrative put Bran on the throne?

Of course, Bran is an excellent example of the power of narrative to produce a ridiculous result.

It works on two levels. I was actually thinking of Tyrion’s logic for nominating him. He had “the best story”.

Except it wasn't the best story. It was at best the third best story, if even that. I mean, Jon rose from the dead!

Tormund and the wildlings knew, which suggests to me that it had become common knowledge.
