It's no different from when I encounter, for example, antivaxers making medical claims about vaccines, child development, infectious disease, etc. My first move is to ask their source of expertise, and then I ask for evidence from the peer-reviewed medical literature.

It’s laughable to be in a science discussion and wary of peer review. It’s literally how we weed out bullsh*t from good science.

Indeed it is. It's imperfect and a lot of crap still gets through, but it's the least bad system we currently have for weeding out bullshit.
