I'll give credit for some of the musical and fantasy sequences, which were often creative. The recreated concert at The Troubadour that jumpstarted Elton's rise to stardom was well done, even though he performed a song that in real life he wouldn't write for another 2-3 years. 2/

#RocketmanMovie also tried to play with some of the conventions of Rick biopic, but appeared at times not to have the strength of its convictions to be more subversive, and when it was subversive it got ridiculous. 3/Show this thread -
I even called the last song in the movie long before the end. It was that predictable. If you think about it a bit, knowing that Elton overcame his substance abuse problems, I bet you can figure it out too if you're a big time Elton John fan, as I've been for a long time. 4/

Basically
#Rocketman was OK, decent, but it could have been so much more, given the drama of Elton John's life. Technically the reproductions were flawless, but the story was very predictable, even if you don't know much about Elton John's private life, as I didn't. 5/5Show this thread
