It's no different from when I encounter, for example, antivaxers making medical claims about vaccines, child development, infectious disease, etc. My first move is to ask their source of expertise, and then I ask for evidence from the peer-reviewed medical literature.

Sure. It's "confirmation bias" to point out that peer review isn't automatic validation of an idea. It's often just a cheap appeal to authority fallacy - as I've already said.

Yep. I ask for peer-reviewed studies when someone makes a medical claim, because I get tired of being referred to YouTube videos or Facebook posts.
