Me & 2 colleagues are preparing a scientific survey to administer to as many IDWs as we can so that we can put some numbers to the claims that IDW is "right" or "classical liberal" or "libertarian" or whatever. Anecdotes do not make a science. Data do. @Quillette @RubinReport

Data don't make science when you start with a conclusion and then create a survey in order to give you the data that support that conclusion.

I missed where it sounds like he's making up new tools. I agree that validated tools would be the weapon of choice. I doubt that Shermer would disagree. Or at least I have no evidence that he would.

He said they're preparing a survey, not that they're planning to administer a validated survey. I could be wrong, but it sure sounds as though they're making one. Also, there's no mention of a social scientist with expertise in this area, which would be very important as well.

I don’t doubt that Michael, with help, can execute a competent survey. I’m more skeptical that he can formulate and test a useful hypothesis, and even that there is one to be tested using this method.

Why would anyone pay attention to
@michaelshermer if he wasn't making bold claims (regardless of the worth of his project).Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
