This is not OK. Even during my brief (compared to these patients) experience of chronic pain, I got a negative vibe at the pharmacy when filling prescriptions. Thankfully, surgery took care of the pinched nerve that was so painful, but what if it hadn't? https://www.wired.com/story/the-true-victims-of-the-opioid-crisis-are-starting-to-rebel/ …

What if the surgery hadn't worked? What if I had a condition like one of these patients that would plague me with chronic pain for the rest of my life?

My husband suffered from cancer for nearly 5 years. One doctor suggested he stop taking opioids because he was becoming addicted. So what? He was in constant agony without the pills.

This, I can't understand. If you're dying of cancer, you should get as much opioids as you need, and the doctor should just help you deal with the side effects as best as he can. Who cares if you become dependent? (Being opioid-dependent is not the same thing as being addicted.)

Even so, if someone’s in chronic pain, it's shouldn't matter.
