This is not OK. Even during my brief (compared to these patients) experience of chronic pain, I got a negative vibe at the pharmacy when filling prescriptions. Thankfully, surgery took care of the pinched nerve that was so painful, but what if it hadn't? https://www.wired.com/story/the-true-victims-of-the-opioid-crisis-are-starting-to-rebel/ …

I'm one of those, and looked for science-based non-pharma options, then sought out specialist care (pain, rheum, phys medicine), was prescribed labelled and off labelled meds, and haven't found adequate relief w/ any. Docs all expressed dissat. w/ me & not tx. for "failing tx".
-
PT treated one specific joint or muscle group, pain docs ablated & ablated w/out evidence of efficacy (but great for $$), phys med was just all around incompetently clueless. Rheum--> LOL in NAD stereotyped. My QOL is non-existent, not that anyone was interested.

My husband suffered from cancer for nearly 5 years. One doctor suggested he stop taking opioids because he was becoming addicted. So what? He was in constant agony without the pills.
-
This, I can't understand. If you're dying of cancer, you should get as much opioids as you need, and the doctor should just help you deal with the side effects as best as he can. Who cares if you become dependent? (Being opioid-dependent is not the same thing as being addicted.)

When my back injury was at its worst, I couldn't get on an airplane or sit through a multi-hour meeting without at least 2 Tramadol in my system: opioids allowed me to keep doing my job.
-
I couldn't take opiates at work because I couldn't see patients or operate while taking them. When the pain got so bad that I had to stop seeing patients and operating, with no signs of improvement in sight, that was when I knew I needed surgery.

A pharmacy wouldn’t fill my script. I was suicidal from the pain. I had to come back the next day with Records of all my spine surgeries and notes on ones I needed. All I want to do is be able to work in the lab, which sometimes requires stronger pain meds.
