Yeah, I completely agree. That being said, isn't a (brilliant !) neurosurgeon supposed to know what evidence is or isn't, to critically review it, to not do anything unless you can reasonnably expect it to have a favorable risk-benefit ratio, etc. ? One could reasonnably expect

i remember 20 years ago when i finished residency, i was embarrassed to find how little I knew about the world outside of medicine, whereas my peers were up to speed on politics, economics, & other worldly affairs. i carved out time to learn more; not sure if Ben Carson ever did.
