I respect the work he did as a surgeon, it was amazing. He seems to have a bit of Dunning-Kruger going on with the things he's not expert in (as you explained at length above) What most of us miss is that we ALL have that same blind spot, just to a lesser or greater degree.

Worked with him in the late ‘80s, domain expertise hides a multitudes of idiosyncrasies. He only started saying stupid stuff after he separated the Binder twins. He would never go to the OR as unprepared as he went to that hearing.
