Are they orthodox or Hasidic? Not trying to be a jerk or anything just genuinely curious since we have the largest Hasidic population outside of Israel here apparently.

It’s complicated, and isn’t as simple as Hasidic and orthodox. As all people that lean towards Hasidism are orthodox, but not all orthodox lean towards Hasidism. I could get into this, but I’m not an expert here with all of the differences

Jewish law is also pretty clear about the use of normally forbidden substances in medicine. To wit, "Life takes precedence over the Law." If, for some reason, ham & cheese sandwiches are needed to treat or cure your medical condition, then those sandwiches are kosher for you.
