Who ever advocated "outrage in the exam room" or against empathy for vaccine-hesitant parents? No one that I'm aware of. Certainly not me, Peter, or any other physician speaking out against the antivaccine movement and for vaccines.🙄https://twitter.com/TomAvril1/status/1128666982327492608 …

When docs express outrage in the face of vaccine hesitancy and resistance, believe me, I get it. But this pediatrician suggests another way, saying that "outrage in the exam room only fuels resistance." https://www.philly.com/health/measles-vaccine-preventable-deaths-philadelphia-pediatrician-20190515.html?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar … @PhillyInquirer @Gorskon @PeterHotez @abuttenheim

Anti-vax people are creating a hostility narrative in order to generate sympathy in the face of their irresponsible and immoral choices? Weird.

am not aware that what you say is true. The doc who wrote that piece is resolutely pro-vaccine, as am i

not saying you did -- but the tenor of some tweets that i have seen (not necessarily from you) seems to border on outrage. and believe me, i am with you, but i just wonder if it accomplishes anything

        Is Twitter "the exam room"?

I've noticed a trend of people telling the doctors, scientists, & patient advocates on the front line of this stuff how they *should* do it. They often are completely unaware of the realities or construct strawmen arguments like this 😐

They also seem to ignore the difference between social media commentary and what we say to patients in the privacy of the exam room. Does anyone think that I actually rant and berate breast cancer patients who went to the naturopath before coming to me with advanced tumors?

And, ridicule and name calling. And, belittling. And, guess what? That. Isn't the way. I've never found that to work except to catch ones attention.

Many Drs bully the parents. My granddaughters Pedi bullied my daughter into vaccinating in we’ll visit at 2 months old. Also when she was delivering her the nurses were so nice until she said she’s not allowing the VK, eye goop & the Hep B, instantly they turned into Mr Hyde.

Bullying =/= informing parents of very real & very dangerous risks of *preventable* diseases. As for L&D nurses, those who work in NICU/ PICU, ever think they may be upset because they've *SEEN* what happens w/ brain bleeds/VK denial, infection etc bc of misinformed parents?

Yes. But I've read your writing. It certainly isn't advocating means of altering opinion. It comes off as straight up ridicule. I get it. I do. Do you also write thought pieces for their sites?
