Insomnia sucks. It's also what I get for letting myself fall asleep on the couch at 8 PM and not waking up until @LateNightSeth's monologue. But is it really insomnia? I have, after all, had 4.5 hrs of sleep so far, just at the wrong time. I'll probably manage a couple more.

I'd heard about this before. Funny, but I was up from around 12:30-3:30 AM and then slept a couple of more hours before getting up for work. That's not quite what this article is describing but did end up being around six and a half hours of sleep total for the night.

It makes sense (of course a lot of wrong stuff does too). But just being aware of this allows me to reduce the pressure I place on myself to get right back to sleep. Paradoxically, it’s that anxiety that is produced when I try too hard to get back asleep that really keeps me up.

I'm just glad I didn't have clinic or any operations today. I feel fine right now, but the pressure of feeling that I had to get right back to sleep to be at my best for my patients would have been so much more anxiety-producing if I had had clinic or cases scheduled today.
