In other words, healthcare HAS already detected Wakefield and weeded him out. He still had a medical degree but can't practice. Professionally, he's utterly disgraced. All he's recently is to make an antivax propaganda movie disguised as a documentary and date Elle MacPherson. 2/

As for weeding someone like him out earlier, I'm not sure how one would do that. Early on, Wakefield was ambitious, but not obviously corrupt. Even his Lancet case series wasn't obviously fraudulent before Deer investigated and found the fraud. 3/

It was thanks to Brian Deer that all these revelations (e.g., the infamous birthday party blood draws) see the light of day. 4/

In any event, professionally, Wakefield is a nobody, a force spent long ago. Unfortunately, there's no way to stop him from being an effective antivaccine propagandist of the "martyred" variety. 5/

Far more worrisome to me now are pediatricians like Dr. Larry Palevsky, who's an actual practicing doctor spreading antivaccine propaganda. Other examples include Dr. Bob Sears and Dr. Paul Thompson. 6/

State medical boards won't sanction them. Medical professional societies won't kick them out. They use their MDs and memberships to give the appearance of legitimacy to their antivax quackery and pseudoscience. 7/

Wakefield is old news. He was long ago expelled from the ranks of practicing physicians. There are so many more antivax doctors who are endangering children NOW by their actual practice who need to have their medical licenses taken away and professional affiliations stripped. 8/8

Wakefield was accused along with Prof Walker Smith. Same "crime". The former's insurance cover didn't cover challenging a strike-off in court (expensive!): Prof W. Smith's did. So he went to High court & was exonerated (which kinda means Wakefield was too) https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/mmr-doctor-john-walker-smith-wins-high-court-appeal-7543114.html …

If you read the Independent article and the quotes from the High Court, Walker was “exonerated” on narrow issues of intent and the law. It in no way exonerated Wakefield and cast no doubt on the finding of fraud. I refuse to give either individual a medical title.

how to weed them out? start by directly addressing the issues raised. one need not be anti-vax to acknowledge faults w/vaccination system, or that vax injury is more widespread than given credit for.
