I suspected it would go this way; but I can see why Dany fans are upset. The show could have established it a little better.

I think it's less "surprised" so much as disappointed. Like... I get they're going with this whole galaxy brain "but you see, power corrupts EVERYONE and it's impossible to be a ruler without getting self-obsessive, blah blah blah", but the point is they're undercutting 1/2

everything we know of Dany from when she was a ruler BEFORE. Like when she went "oh, I fucked up and subjects are starving I need to learn to govern?" but now she's a child going "I'M NOT SPECIAL ANYMORE :( " . They're throwing her under the bus for John's King Arthur narrative.

Yeah, I haven’t seen her as a compassionate ruler very often. More driven like hell and willing to do anything to get what she wants including watching her brother become a golden trophy!

I don't watch
#GOT Except that one episode back in season one 'for cultural awareness' Janice, you could write about why we have 'rabid fans' analyzing and watching more than once And those passing It may be your passion to do so

It's a more realistic plot turn to show Daenarys' flaws. I know many fans want to believe she's perfect, driven only by the desire to free slaves and see justice done. But we've also seen that she is ruthlessly ambitious. That's why some are pushing for Jon: he's less impulsive.
