Indeed. Some antivaxers are even explicit about it, for instance, Dr. Bob Sears, who said: "I do think the disease danger is low enough where I think you can safely raise an unvaccinated child in today’s society. It may not be good for the public health." 1/https://twitter.com/raganwald/status/1123387921837387777 …

Dr. Big Sears continued: "But … for your individual child, I think it is a safe enough choice." Basically, he advocated that his patients and readers who don't vaccinate should "hide in the herd." 2/https://respectfulinsolence.com/2014/09/08/dr-bob-sears-profiled-a-cynical-vaccine-averse-pediatrician-who-accepts-no-blame-for-the-results-of-his-antivaccine-message/ …

In his vaccine book, Dr. Sears states: "I also warn [parents] not to share their fears with their neighbors, because if too many people avoid the MMR, we'll likely see the diseases increase significantly.” 3/https://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/123/1/e164.full …

Basically, there are antivaxers out there playing patents who vaccinate for sucker, refusing to take even a tiny risk of an adverse event sure to a vaccine while using the herd immunity provided by those who do vaccinate their children for protection. It's very cynical. 4/4
