He says that likely because 1. He doesn’t grasp the complex nature of the problem or 2. He doesn’t have the knowledge base to discuss these ideas or 3. He is intellectually lazy and ignorant of the fact that skills needed for criticism of alt med apply globally in medicine.

I mean, many view the alt med industry as one of the greatest current threats to public health, deserving MORE time and resources to combat, but whatever.

The reason I got sarcastic with Vinay is because of his clear disdain for countering alternative medicine. He clearly falls into the category of docs who think it beneath him.

Sarcasm is my first language. Honestly he can keep his smug disdain to himself while the rest of us try to right this sinking ship.

Replying to @maie_lynn @gorskon and
Honestly. How can he be in heme-oncology and not appreciate the harmful effect of alt med? Has he not read the recent studies on the survival of cancer patients?

I listen to Prasad's podcast, Plenary Sessions. He enjoys dismantling bad research in his field, and I am quite thankful for that. But he does come across as arrogant and self-important, which is unfortunate. Quite sad he thinks addressing alt med is "beneath him".

Yeah, I think he thinks that applying his critical thinking skills to alt med is beneath him because it's too easy. He doesn't seem to realize that, far from being easy, dismantling bad studies on alternative medicine can be just as difficult as anything he does on his podcast.

And even more difficult is effective dissemination of the information to the general public.
