This is a relatively recent phenomenon that began and got worse over seasons six and seven. Go back and watch some episodes from early seasons, and the difference is jarring.

Back when I watched the later Potter movies in the cinema it mostly conveyed confusion on me as I could never tell what was actually happening on that darn dark screen

I fear that the same thing might occur in tonight's episode, which was filmed almost entirely at night and likely will be dark and washed out.

In the last Harry Potter movie, there was one scene that was an exception, the train station scene. That scene was very brightly lit, although the color palette was still washed out.
