In other words, antivaxers don't actively want vaccine-preventable diseases to come back. Rather, they're indifferent to whether they do come back as a result of declining vaccine uptake. They're also perfectly willing to "hide in the herd," as Dr. Bob Sears put it.

Their logic is basically this: I would rather risk burying my dead child than have a child on the autism spectrum. That just makes them crappy human beings who should not have procreated.

They think that vaccines are more risky and more likely to kill their child and that VPDs are generally harmless and any severity is attributable to really insufficient nutrition. I know, because I used to be one.
