A key part of the dogma of quackery is that if you're sick it's your fault. A key corollary to this dogma is that if you use a quack's treatment and fail to get better it's also your fault (e.g., you didn’t do it right or weren't dedicated enough). Either way, it's your fault.https://twitter.com/67LuckyJim/status/1113866809193537536 …

I repressed that memory. I lost two good friends to AIDS who also blamed their “lack of faith and power” for their illness, regardless of how many of us tried to call out as bullshit. The anger is back in full force today as I miss theylike it was yesterday.

Not unlike "psychics" who fail to be psychic when a skeptic is around because of the skeptic's negative vibes or aura or ions or whatever.

This is why I hate the language of someone's "battle with cancer". It implies that if they just fought harder they wouldn't die. It's victim blaming. A disease is not a war.

Remind me to find it. Louise Hays of Hay House publishing had this massive list of every condition ever and why it was the fault of the person who had the disease.

When one of my kids was sick, an alternative practitioner I met in a waiting area said it was because: 1. I must have had a c-section. (I hadn’t). 2. That I hadn’t breastfed him. (I had). And, when neither of those worked: 3. His bed wasn’t aligned north-south.🤦‍♀️

Yikes.... there is a cancer patient blogger currently spouting that negative thinking can cause cancer, stimulate cancer progression and that if one releases negative thoughts stage 4 cancer can be cured. She is now a ‘Let Your Sh*t Go’ counselor - she also offers Thermography

As opposed to "evidence based medicine" (i.e. drug based) where the key belief is that no patient has any agency or stake whatsoever in their own health. Folk live or die based only on fate and the competency otherwise of the docs they meet! Okey-dokey
