Your opinion, however educated, does not weigh more than the lived experiences of others. If you don’t believe me, then it’s clear you have yet to experience much, regardless of your level of education. And regardless of your opinion.

So are you saying that antivaxxers should be given more weigh than immunologists, scientists, and doctors? Because that is one way in which this tweet can be interpreted and which I would very much disagree.

I was referring to *actual* experiences. Not pseudoscience and opinion.

Many turn to unscientific options because of deeply felt experiences Ex: a friend now only sees a naturopath where she has better experiences. Psych is also full of these stories. We need to validate their experiences. We also need to correct misconceptions.

Perhaps if we begin by seeing the difference between what is our own opinion and what we know to be true.

That is still a dilemma
@BrowofJustice - antivaxxers come to it through deep feelings about their own experiences. We need to acknowledge that. It is the difference between a study of one and science. Put another way it is anecdotal evidence verses science.2 replies 0 retweets 5 likes -

What I have seen primarily in people against vaccines: distrust of medical people, fear of the unknown, a romantic nostalgia for days gone by, and a hefty dose of “it will never happen to us and if it does we’ll still be fine.”

I have seen very much the same things in medical people who refuse to believe that patients are in pain, for instance.

But I’m not here to talk about vaccines. That gives antivaccination positions too much validity. Those experiences are not factual, and facts are not how you approach them.

Define "experiences" in the context of antivaxers. Their experiences ARE real. It's how they interpret those experiences that is where the errors come in.
