I get tired of this nonsense. Having worked with NPs all my career, I view propaganda like this as nothing more than turf protection, plain and simple. I often wonder why doctors like Dr. Elle don't spend nearly as much time and effort opposing naturopathic licensing bills. 1/https://twitter.com/McknightmdEllen/status/1104361877583417345 …

Not surprisingly former President of the a medical John Birch Society disguised as a medical professional society that is antivax,

Alieta Eck, MD @AlietaEckPeople need to be aware of the tremendous difference in training of nurse practitioners vs physicians. 600 hrs of health policy vs 20,000 hrs of hands on training in patient care. I had to put up with the same BS in Michigan from the
@MichStateMedSoc five years ago when a similar bill was being considered in Michigan. MSMS ran trucks with billboards by the state capital and lobbied legislators heavily, urging it's members to call/write our legislators. 3/1 reply 0 retweets 4 likesShow this thread -
When various naturopathic licensing bills or other bills to license quackery have come up since then...crickets. No email bursts from
@MichStateMedSoc to its members. No lobbying legislators. I don't even recall whether MSMS even testified when the bills were in committee. 4/2 replies 0 retweets 11 likesShow this thread -
Anyway,
@MichStateMedSoc's activity then inspired me to write this, and the reappearance of the same turf protection tropes today inspired me to repost it. It's sad to see that little or nothing has changed in five years. 5/5https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/expanding-the-scope-of-practice-of-advanced-practice-nurses-does-not-endanger-patients/ …7 replies 2 retweets 11 likesShow this thread -
Replying to @gorskon @MichStateMedSoc
So much has happened since you came to the conclusions in 2014. There has been “mission creep,” with NPs calling themselves doctors, hanging up a shingle and practicing independently today. They often do not specialize in training. The key is patient protection. Full disclosure.

The “literature “ such that it is, is biased, poorly powered and the important things that it studies are mostly useless. Come out, come out into the real world, and be there with us to clean up the messes that would shock the hell out of you.

B. Especially B. They don't view quacks as nearly as big a threat to them as NPs.

They are likely to cause more harm than the midlevel rise because there are physicians and pharmacists to hopefully catch most of the worst cases. The ones who fall for woo never see us till it is too late.
