There are parts of where I live that NPs and PAs are the only consistent medical care for rural and low income areas. Most of the physicians are over 65 who came here as underserved area foreign physicians and its nearly impossible to recruit young physicians to replace them

A problem that is important to address because it is disparity of care and a clear example of how educated pts with resources will end up receiving MD care while socially disadvantaged will end up with mid-levels. None of these providers are going to say “btw, I’m not a doctor”.

Dammit every time I see "NPs" written somewhere, I automatically read it as nanoparticles!

Exactly. We owe our pts proof that we aren’t doing harm by allowing NPs to practice independently. After all, we go through multiple board exams to earn that trust. Did someone actually mention that we are overtraining MDs? They clearly haven’t compared our training to the UK.

Accept the challenge. You’re not on the front lines, practicing in rural America, working w children in the ED having been treated by NPs that do not understand psychiatric pharmacology. The children are being misdiagnosed at an ALARMING rate. People are being harmed. Wake Up!

He won’t accept; too afraid of his wife.
