EVERY generation of senior docs complains about how "soft" residents and young attending are. They were doing it when I was a resident; e.g., because general surgery call in my time as a resident was every three nights instead of the every other night call they did as residents.https://twitter.com/JPatelEM/status/1102999792861569025 …

And it’s *so* dumb. And not even just dumb, but malignantly dumb.

goes beyond doctors-everyone in a older generation thinks young people have it easier than they did. All the talk about "snowflakes" and "participation trophies" makes me sick

Sure. I've been saying that for years now. More senior doctors complaining about residents is just one manifestation of a more general phenomenon.

The whole "I was taken advantage of when younger so I can in turn mistreat my underlings" macho mentality is abusive & stupid. From the patient's perspective, having a doctor who is alert and not groggy (from working too many hours) to avoid making mistakes is a "good thing".

Does anyone care about what is best for patients?!? I don't want Anyone making any decisions about me, no matter how minor, if they have already been on duty for 10 hours.

I do it just to elicit eyerolls from the residents. Never fails.

Hmmm. I've never tried that. The problem is that any of our residents on social media follow me might have seen my earlier comments.
