And I am all for academic freedom! But I think using the clout of Cochrane to propagate unfounded fears of "serious neurological harms" from the HPV vaccines is rather beyond that:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tP-Th9Ug_vg …

I am not convinced that "academic freedom" should reduce other academics' freedom, to the point that they can't choose to vote someone out of their personal club for breaking its rules.

It seems that to Ioannidis academic freedom means that if you're "a giant", "one of the greatest scientists of our times" then you can say whatever the hell you want? And the evidence can go hang!pic.twitter.com/xcv0yF7hGI

Of course as Ioannidis himself is a tenured professor at Stanford with a citation rate >3,000 a month (in the top ten of all scientists, natch)...so he can say this without fear of contradiction.

Even if he doesn't actually seem aware of, for example, petty details like Gøtzsche's stance on HPV vaccines... It's those little lower case facts, when you've got the Truth.

And Gøtzsche has now, to my complete and utter lack of surprise, come out as full on anti-vaccine:https://mobile.twitter.com/Rosewind2007/status/1096336832189657088 …

Well, he is appearing at this event, alongside Toni Bark and Robert F Kennedy? They are, I think it's fair to say, rabidly anti-vaccine: https://www.prweb.com/releases/physicians_for_informed_consent_to_host_workshop_luncheon_in_southern_california/prweb16097222.htm …pic.twitter.com/kZPaG7cdT0

Can you honestly think of an "innocent" explanation? "He didn't know Physicians for Informed Consent were
#antivaccine to the core?" "He had no idea who@doctorsensation is, or her position regarding vaccines!" "Robert F Kennedy? He's not#antivaxx is he?"2 replies 3 retweets 12 likes
Yup. RFK Jr. is hard core antivax. So is Mary Holland. Ditto Toni Bark. Rick Jaffe is a lawyer who specializes in representing quacks like @DrStanBurzynski. @picphysicians is a hard core antivax group disguised as a a group advocating "informed consent."

If
@PGtzsche1 was unaware of these facts before, he is no longer. Will be pull out of this antivax confab where he's agreed to appear? I predict no, because he's become antivax.1 reply 3 retweets 12 likes -

And he’s giving a talk that, by its title, is designed to appeal to this antivaccine audience. Basically catering to them.
