Serious question: Does someone dressing up as Michael Jackson for Halloween in the 1980s when he was world famous as the "King of Pop" make him a racist?

No. Michael Jackson was full on popular in 1984, When I was a kid my next door neighbor was a white and he had the dang jacket. Idolizing is not the same thing as being a racist.

Did the kid next door put on blackface when he wore the jacket?

No, and even if it had...I wouldn't have been offended by it. Nothing wrong with idolizing someone even if you don't look exactly like that person.

Agree. If we’re talking about Northam, that’s not the situation. Millions of kids have idolized MJ but putting on blackface is unnecessary and widely considered racist whether or not we as individuals are offended.

Also, Northam wasn't a kid then. He was in his mid-20s.
