I was watching some old M*A*S*H episodes last weekend. I loved that show when I was young, but rewatching it in 2019 makes me realize that Hawkeye was a bit of a perv and definitely a borderline sexual harasser. I still like the show overall, but cringed enough to bother me.https://twitter.com/JanekKayley/status/1088999642577145856 …

Same. And there was not a single woman on the show who wasn’t there as a sex object (NOTE: until later seasons when Maj Houlihan really came into her own as a developed character)

It turns out, culture and humor evolves. The villains, Burns and Emerson, were mocked as much as being relics as for anything else. Those blaming bad audiences or SJWs or whatever for the failure of their humor - they’re just the Frank Burnses of the modern era.

No doubt. And comics who whine about "political correctness" are lazy comics, unable or unwilling to change with the times.

Also: Winchester was a profoundly sympathetic figure - unlike Burns he didn’t deserve (all of) the abuse he got from Hawkeye and BJ, and largely maintained his sense of patrician dignity.

I wouldn't necessarily go that far. He was often insufferable enough to deserve some abuse.
