Thanks for writing up our work and for your thoughtful criticism about our third category (can't get conventional treatment) of rationale for seeking alternative treatments. You are correct that most of these cases were of people told that no curative option existed.

As you rightly note, palliative care is conventional care and many of those in this third category were choosing to forgo conventional palliative care in favor of alternative treatments. We chose to place these cases in a third category following the language and rationale given

This is one of the reasons why I get upset about the "well it's their money/at least they're getting conventional treatments too" crud. Because it gives the charlatans more glowing testimonials to fleece those who can't afford it financially or time wise. 1/?

2/? If someone has been given the option of palliative care, and chooses garrison quackery based on the testimonials of the person who also had chemotherapy but credited the quackery, how much time do they lose preparing juice hourly, shopping, in the bathroom?
