Indeed, the firebombing of Tokyo on March 9, 1945 is widely viewed as the single most deadly and destructive bombing raid in human history. It killed 100,000 and left a million homeless, destroying 16 sq. mi. of central Tokyo. Incendiary bombs were used to maximize fire damage.
