Actually, the Soviet Union liberated Auschwitz, as well as Majdanek, Belzec, Sobibor, and Treblinka. Examples of camps liberated by the US include Buchenwald, Dora-Mittelbau, Flossenbürg, Dachau, and Mauthausen. The British liberated Neuengamme and Bergen-Belsen. https://twitter.com/ARMY4Trump/status/1077763194351955968 …

And while it's certainly true that the US played a major role in stopping Nazi-ism, the Soviet Union suffered far longer and more casualties and atrocities at the hands of the Nazis. History is more complicated than our "deplorable" friend knows.

It's also true that the Soviets committed many atrocities as they swept into Germany, including mass rape of German women and girls. Again, history, it's complicated. To defeat the Nazis, we allied ourselves with a murderous dictator whose troops were as brutal as Nazis.

And what we did to the civilian populations of Dresden, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki is almost unspeakable.

The worst part of US behavior during WWII included the bombing campaign against German cities and the massive firebombing of Japanese cities, all long before the atom bombs were dropped. Historians still argue over whether these bombing campaigns detectably shortened the war.

Yep. And the Japanese also committed atrocities. (Rape of Nanking, etc.) And not long after the war, the Dutch were absolutely brutal during the war for Indonesia’s independence. It’s pretty much an equal opportunity thing.

The impact of Soviet Troops in Europe/Germany was not lost on the leaders of the time. In fact, there was plans to continue the war against the Soviet Union starting with a 'surprise attack' to "impose the will of the Western Allies". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Unthinkable …
