I can actually see the utility of such training for elite soldiers and sailors, such as Navr SEALS. Their missions at times might require long periods without adequate sleep.
How did they get the system to change and acknowledge that overwork was wrong Did people lobby or did the powers that be just realise the system was not right. or was it something else. Thanks for everything you do.
I worked like that the first ten years out of residency; first in a military facility, then as a junior faculty at a teaching hospital. I never had the strength to brag. Who are these people?

Residencies in medicine, other specialties (like mine in internal medicine) were similar. How can you learn when you have been awake for >24 hours? But we supplied a lot of nearly free labor to the business people already running the hospitals.
I was told the work hour restrictions have been done away with, for whatever idiotic reason. Not looking forward to residency.
