Actually, in the case of homeopathy and Benveniste, Randi was spot on. Also, peer review is unfortunately not very good at detecting systematic error that derives from scientists fooling themselves. I think magicians have insights into practical ways to fool human reason and sense perception. I'd give the example of Jasper Maskelyne, but we both know how unreliable his stories are.

That's certainly true. Randi demonstrated that very well, finding problems that scientists hadn't even considered. However, I did sometimes think he oversold the point a bit. After all, Randi and his hero Houdini were exceptional magicians and had a skeptical bent.
