And we know the models are "wrong", as George Box said, *all models are wrong* - by definition they are *approximations* of reality. But, some are useful. This is the denialist trope of moving goalposts. We don't need perfect models (that's the Earth itself) just good ones.

Sadly,
@JonahNRO's article on climate science reminded me of articles by antivaxers on vaccines. It used the same techniques off exaggerating uncertainty.7 replies 0 retweets 17 likes -

Jonah is a concern troll casting doubt and hoping to lead to inaction that might damage his buddies’ vast fortunes.

That's not the impression I get from reading his article. He uses quite a few denialist tropes to appear "reasonable" while condemning Max for being too strident. Classic denialist tactics. I've seen them used by antivaxers and creationists.

Yep, the "needs more research" trope was a favorite of the tobacco industry.

"Needs more research" is also a trope for cold fusion, cancer treatment(s), embryonic stem cell therapy, and countless other things. You're also mixing categories. I said solutions to climate change need more research, not its existence.

No, we know the solutions, and passed by opportunities to implement them for decades - making future action more costly. This is a delaying tactic to avoid the libertarian horror of...gasp...regulations, taxes and commitment to international cooperation for carbon reduction.

Yep. Almost EVERY scientific question "needs more research." However, for many scientific problems, EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD ALWAY BENEFIT FROM MORE RESEARCH, we already have enough research to know what needs to be done to begin to attack them. Climate change is one such problem.

Thus, for problems like human-caused climate change, "needs more research" is frequently used as an excuse to do nothing or to delay doing anything. It's the same excuse used by the tobacco industry for decades to delay regulation.
