We like to dismiss it as related to intelligence but it’s not. It’s just that our brains are not evolved to be logical but synthetic. If you’ve been taught one system your whole life, a new datum that grinds the gears is more readily rejected than given a fair shake. It’s human.

I still don’t think it’s worth it. The presumption that there are “fence sitters” relies on the idea that an information deficit is the cause of antiscience belief. The deficit model, while widely believed, is totally invalid.
