So here it is, a year after Dora's puppies were born, and we now have a new litter of puppies to foster from @IHeartDogsHaven. 1/https://twitter.com/gorskon/status/975362304958259201 …

Yay! I just learned yesterday that Fred, the last of Dora's puppies still at the @IHeartDogsHaven has been adopted. All eight of our former foster puppies now have forever homes. This makes me very happy... https://twitter.com/gorskon/status/950041305652060161 …

The story is a bit different this time. @IHeartDogsHaven was to get a mom and litter from Kentucky, and we agreed to foster them. When the dogs arrived at the shelter there were two moms with litters. 2/

The shelter personnel asked us to take the other mom and litter than the ones we had originally agreed to take. The reason is that they thought my wife and I could handle them better given that the mom was VERY anxious and fearful. 3/

And she was. She was cowering in her crate, shaking. We felt sorry for her and agreed to take her and her 7 puppies instead of the other mom and litter. 4/

So now we have the dogs at home in our basement pen. The mom seems to be a bit less anxious, but she still cringes if I lean over her. Poor thing, she acts as though she's been abused, and she's very skinny. 5/

The puppies, fortunately, are plump and look healthy. They appear to be around three weeks old. Their eyes are open and they are starting to stand and walk, albeit very wobbly. 6/

The mom looks like a Golden Retriever mix of assume sorry, but she's smaller than a typical Golden. 7/pic.twitter.com/ekWBKXB8iD

Most of the puppies look like their mom, but one is black with a lighter colored head and looks kind of like a Rottweiler. Another is a blaze. 8/pic.twitter.com/DhHc8hRjgh

Hopefully, we can get the mom to trust us so that we can socialize her puppies more easily and also because it looks is to see such a beautiful dog in such distress. We haven't introduced her to our dogs yet, because it would stress her too much. 9/

Slow and steady. These are beautiful dogs, and we'll get them ready for adoption by the end of the year (hopefully). Thanks to Dora and her puppies, we know what we're doing a lot better now than we did a year ago. 10/

I have to wonder, though. Is fostering a litter of puppies going to become our November to January thing every year? 11/11
