What Not-(a)-Doctor forgets is that the reason relativity was ultimately accepted was the mountain of evidence that couldn't be ignored revealing shortcomings in Newtonian physics AND how relativity ALSO encompassed Newtonian physics at velocities a small fraction of c. 1/ https://twitter.com/DrPaulND/status/1061312944183500800 …

Then, of course, there was the mountain of evidence supporting relativity that developed afterward. There is no comparable body of evidence supporting shortcomings in the physics, chemistry, and biology that show
#homeopathy can't work and demanding an "addition." 2/1 reply 0 retweets 6 likesShow this thread -
Basically, this analogy is a false one. Unlike the case of relativity and Newtonian physics, there is no great hole in the science that only homeopathy can fill, and there's no evidence for
#homeopathy comparable to existing science showing that homeopathy can't work. 3/2 replies 0 retweets 8 likesShow this thread -
Thus, there is no need for an addition to existing science encompassing
#homeopathy. 4/42 replies 0 retweets 5 likesShow this thread -
Replying to @gorskon
As you note, relativity and QM subsumed existing theory; Newtonian mechanics is true enough over a great range and relativity did not contradict that, but homeopathy actually contradicts modern chemistry.

Yup. We still use Newtonian mechanics for most engineering purposes because it's such a closer approximation. At velocities we normally deal with, relativistic corrections aren't necessary.
