These estimates for the number of deaths attributable to medical error are enormously inflated and due to poor methodology, dubious assumptions, and extrapolation from way too small numbers of patients. 3/

None of this is to say that medical errors aren't a significant problem. They are, and we in the medical profession should do as much as we can to reduce them as close to zero as is feasible. 4/

That being said, remember that these estimates saying that medical errors are the third leading cause of death are utter bullshit and virtually always more of a tool of people whose agenda is to demonize conventional medicine than reliable estimates. 5/5
