Integrative medicine = integrating quackery with real medicine. @CaulfieldTim and I ARE biased. We're biased FOR science.https://twitter.com/DugaldSeely/status/1060699671457423362 …

Kudos to the students at @McGillMed for exploring the ways that people, & future patients use to achieve health and support themselves. Why the vehement anti-integrative approach? Dig deeper, beneath your bias, and you'll see so much that our Western based medicine misses.

Great to hear it. I too am biased for science, all for the scientific method, measurement, and the application of good research. It's a big tent, thankfully.

Saw this quote earlier today in an article talking about placebos. "Science may not be the only way to understand illness and healing, but it is the established way." Yes, thankfully a very big tent. We won't medicate ourselves to health, as some in the tent have discovered.

I am a student journalist currently researching my feature article that will investigate science/evidence based health and med treatments vs. alternative products and services. This tweet was so timely for me! #teamscience

Make sure you gain a balanced perspective Erin - there is a wide spectrum from alternative to conventional, with many of us firmly grounded in complementary/integrative health care.

"Integrative medicine" undermines evidence-based medicine, it gives quackery credence. 😪

It's a shame that we even have to use the term 'evidence based medicine'. Should be intrinsic to the meaning of 'medicine' that it's based on evidence

In an era of increased anti-science sentiment and outright disregard for evidence, it is essential that medicine schools be an example of linking human compassion with best available evidence. Putting sand in an apple pie does not improve the pie.

I appreciate the work of @CaulfieldTim in promoting scientific literacy, upholding the scientific method, and demanding medicine be evidence based. I understand why to avoid pseudoscience. Please tell me a good SOLUTION for a truly biopsychosocial approach to health in medicine.

There is no "western" medicine or "eastern" medicine; just medicine. If evidence says it works and we understand when to use it and make informed choices with clear understanding of the risks and benefits. Then it's good medicine.
