And that’s also why there were far fewer people who died from cancer before the 20th century. Most people born then simply didn’t live long enough to get it.

Yep. Everybody dies eventually; so if one group of causes of death decline dramatically, other causes of death must increase, even as lifespan and infant mortality plummet.
