I bet our President fell for a protester jokingly wondering where her Soros check is, the way antivaxers and quacks sometimes don't get the joke when I quip, "Where's my filthy lucre, big pharma paymasters?" That's why these days I usually add a crack about Lizard Overlords too.https://twitter.com/SenJeffMerkley/status/1049681442731642882 …

no, he's using the antisemitic meme because he's fine with antisemitism.

Antivax and quackery not infrequently overlap with antisemitic conspiracy theories. In the minds of a lot of antivaxers, who do you think runs big pharma?

A lot of antisemitic theoritizing has been based in quite orthodox science.

Irrelevant to my point, and I never said that it didn't. If also doesn't change the fact that Trump supporters are prone to multiple conspiracy theories, including antisemitic ones and antivax ones.

I think that's true. There's also a way in which Trump supporters line up with quite establishment ways of thinking. There are Trumpers in our medical centers and our laboratories. Trumpism iow does not imply antiscientism.

Working in a medical center or lab does NOT mean one isn't antiscience with respect to something. There are an unfortunately high number of antivaccine nurses and creationist doctors. There are a lot of climate science denialists there. That's antiscience.

I tend to be too contrary, so my apologies if I am tending that direction in this discussion. You are absolutely right that antivaxism is extraordinarily problematic. However, antiscientism is not a simple, homogeneous category - because science-belief isn't either. As you know.

You're also kind of sucking the fun out of this whole thread. I was joking, and now everything's serious. Of course, it takes at least two to do that; so I'll take my lumps too.

And I think I'm done, as my joke has been ruined for me.
